“Food shortages, sky-rocketing cheese prices, grounded airplanes, traffic jams, riots and yes, a repurposed Cold War-era emergency exit route for Buckingham Palace’s most famous 92-year-old wearer of colorful big hats, are just some of the warnings being sounded in Britain if the nation leaves the bloc it joined 46 years ago without securing a withdrawal deal with the EU that’s also acceptable to British lawmakers.”

“America has a transportation problem. Its highways and bridges are in desperate need of repairs. Its major population centers are in desperate need of road and rail capacity to get people and products out of traffic jams. And the Highway Trust Fund—used to build and maintain those roads, bridges and transit systems—is running short of cash.” Congress needs to take action and increase the “federal gasoline tax which hasn’t been raised since 1993.” This “simple and fair” solution “hits people who use the roads the most and drive the least fuel-efficient vehicles. Just raise it already.”

As Beijing moves to ease congestion by restricting sales of autos, overseas news outlets are noting this story which advocates relocating the capital. “Traffic jams and environmental problems in Beijing are leading some experts to revisit a decades-long proposal for China to relocate its capital to Central China or another part of the country.” Other factors favoring a move involve limited drinking water and the need to boost regional development. Many, however, view any such move as impractical and unlikely.
