“A troubling trend has emerged in the Bay Area and around the nation: More young people are getting sick, in numbers so large that in some regions they now make up the largest and fastest-growing demographic contracting the virus.” Although are far less likely to die of COVID-19, youths with milder symptoms often risk exposing others and many of them still wind up with “symptoms severe enough to send them to the emergency room or intensive care.”

Matteo Salvini has in effect “been the most powerful man in Italy since shortly after he became a deputy prime minister in June last year.” His domestic rise has been “relentless,” though it is not connected “to pre-eminence by solving or showing how he might solve any of Italy’s obvious malaises.” Even more worryingly, Mr. Salvini has a very antagonistic relationship with the EU and he could very well instigate a new crisis, willingly or otherwise. “The troubling fact for Europe is that no one knows what this meteor that has flashed across Italy’s skies will do next.”

“Trump seems to be coming unglued.” Though “you might say while it’s deeply troubling to see the president embracing conspiracy theories or believing that millions of people voted illegally for his opponent, it doesn’t necessarily mean that he has lost his mind. But the fact that he thinks that it wasn’t him on the Access Hollywood tape suggests that Trump has had a profound break with reality.”

That is, to put it mildly, something quite out of the ordinary.” Even more troubling, “what every scientist in the world studying the Arctic knows is this: what happens in the Arctic doesn’t stay in the Arctic; and global warming is now permanently altering the region in ways that will have untold consequences. In fact, the Arctic system has changed so dramatically that it may now be vulnerable to tipping points that affect the entire planet.”
