Bloomberg (December 1)

2023/ 12/ 01 by jd in Global News

“For all the bullish milestones notched by November’s big market surge, recent history offers Wall Street a lesson in caution. Time and time again, speculation breaks out that the Federal Reserve is poised to ease monetary policy soon enough — spurring even cautious investors to erupt in a spasm of cross-asset buying. Stocks jump, bond yields fall, and a dash ensues among equity speculators into shady corners encompassing everything from meme fliers to crypto and profitless tech.”

Seeking Alpha (April 5)

2023/ 04/ 06 by jd in Global News

“Investors were taken by surprise on April 2nd when news broke that OPEC+…announced unexpected cuts in output. This move came even in spite of a previously rosy forecast for the supply and demand balance that OPEC made public…. Investors would be wise to see this as a bullish development for any company that benefits from higher oil prices. But in particular, the exploration and production companies could be very appealing to consider at this time.”

New York Times (March 8)

2023/ 03/ 09 by jd in Global News

“It seems even the most bullish on Wall Street now get the message: The Federal Reserve is prepared to raise interest rates until it feels it’s sufficiently beaten back inflation — even if those moves cool off the job market and send the economy into recession.” It will now clearly be “higher for longer.”

Market Watch (November 15)

2022/ 11/ 17 by jd in Global News

“A bullish day is setting up for stocks after more upbeat news on inflation as producer prices fell more than expected.” But the relief rally is likely overdone. “Wall Street remains wary, with fresh warnings from two big banks.” On Monday, Goldman Sachs cautioned “clients that the relief rally in bonds and risky assets was ‘likely overdone,’” just as “one of Wall Street’s most vocal bulls — Marco Kolanovic of JPMorgan — cut his equity risk exposure for the second time in two months, and he also cited that big market bounce last week.”

The Week (October 8)

2022/ 10/ 09 by jd in Global News

“Alarm is rising over a global slowdown that’s testing even Apple’s invincibility… In September, Apple was so bullish about its sales projections for the new iPhone 14 that it told suppliers to bump production by roughly 7 percent.” Within just a few weeks, Apple backtracked. “If Apple is struggling to gauge consumer sentiment, that doesn’t bode well for other companies.

Washington Post (March 9)

2022/ 03/ 11 by jd in Global News

“Stock analysts are riding with the bull despite rumblings from the bear.” On Monday, “U.S. stocks slumped the most in 17 months… but the ‘buy the dip’ mentality isn’t dead… and stock analysts are part of the reason it’s likely to stick around awhile. Research on individual stocks is as bullish as it has been in two decades by some measures.”

Bloomberg (May 2)

2016/ 05/ 04 by jd in Global News

“Money managers turned the most bullish since May as West Texas Intermediate crude climbed to a five-month high on optimism that falling U.S. production and rising fuel demand will trim the global glut.” Their optimism may be both short-sighted and short-lived as OPEC just “boosted production by 484,000 barrels a day to 33.217 million in April, the most in monthly data going back to 1989.”

Bloomberg (December 1)

Not everyone is in line with the consensus view that the yen will weaken to 126 per dollar by the end of 2016. Among the most bullish, Morgan Stanley “expects Japan’s currency to strengthen to 115 against the greenback.” Factors behind this forecast include the historic weakness of the yen, the need for Japanese pension funds to repatriate money, improvement in Japan’s economy and a general overestimation of the BOJ’s commitment to monetary easing.

Bloomberg (February 8, 2012)

Larry Fink, the CEO of the world’s largest asset manager, BlackRock Inc. (BLK), has provocative advice for investors. He’s bullish on the economic outlook and urges investors to take advantage of ultra-low equity valuations. According to Bloomberg, Fink believes “investors should have 100 percent of investments in equities because of valuations and higher returns than bonds.”
