Relations between China and the U.S. have become strained over issues including currency rates, climate change, censorship and cyber security. The latest irritant was a $6.4 billion sale of arms to Taiwan. China has condemned the U.S. for this sale and threatened to sanction the arms makers, which include Boeing. The Financial Times calls this action “foolhardy,” cautioning that “Beijing should resist any moves towards a trade war that would be dangerous for the world and especially dangerous for China, the world’s biggest exporter of manufactured goods.”
