As a result, “the supply of new homes has been severely constrained by this imbalance…. New listings — a measure of how many sellers were putting up their homes for sale — were down 27% in early July versus a year ago.”

“The price of bacon could soar by up to 60 percent in California when an animal welfare proposition kicks in at the start of next year.” Proposition 12 takes effect January 1. It “mandates space requirements for confining certain animals and prohibits the sale of meat and eggs from animals that are kept in places that do not meet this standard.”

Carl Icahn the largest investor in Xerox has formed an alliance with billionaire Darwin Deason, the third largest investor, “to encourage the printer and copier giant to explore a potential sale…. The fact that they are working together and own such a big stake is sure to ratchet up the pressure on a company that is grappling with slumping demand as the world becomes more digital—and is already considering a major transaction.” Due to its “strategic importance,” the Fuji Xerox joint venture “would likely be at the center of any review.”

The 24-hour shopping-palooza, also known as Singles Day, generated $9.3 billion in sales last year, dramatically more than the $2.7 billion sold during America’s Cyber Monday. Analysts predict sales will set a new record this week.”
