“Initial public offerings (IPOs) in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region are gathering momentum, with a burgeoning pipeline of deals and renewed optimism of further supply stretching into the future.” Saudi Arabia’s Tadawul Exchange is predicted to be the region’s most active, followed by the Dubai Financial Market, Qatar Exchange and the Abu Dhabi Exchange. “However, some of these companies could look to the London Stock Exchange due to its wider access to international investors. The dearth of liquidity in regional compared with global exchanges remains a challenge for local IPOs.”

Despite its modest scope, “the first global deal since the World Trade Organisation (WTO) came into existence in 1995” is an achievement. “It includes some useful stuff: by one estimate, cutting customs red tape could raise annual global output by $400 billion, with much of the gain flowing to developing economies.” With fresh approaches, this momentum can be this leveraged to achieve other modest, but noteworthy deals.

“Japan’s inflationary momentum remains worryingly sluggish. The recent acceleration in prices is the result of surging energy costs, not of domestically generated inflation. Regular wages–excluding overtime and bonuses–fell for a 16th consecutive month in September…. The government must be ready to take more of an activist line to secure its objective.… The government should also be much bolder in its structural reform agenda, aimed at stimulating the rate of long-term growth.”

“Singapore’s long drive to become the world’s leading centre for private asset management is gaining momentum as Asia’s wealthy exert greater influence and overseas investors flock to the city state.” Singapore is now a “legitimate rival to Switzerland,” with estimates the island state will overtake the Alpine nation in terms of assets under management by 2015.
